Pure mugwort leaves are crushed especially coarsely to form cones, intended for direct and indirect cauterization. EC21 is particularly suitable for moxas on coarse salt, thin slices of garlic or ginger.
The mugwort used is exclusively picked on June 21, at the summer solstice where the sun is at its maximum "fire": its active ingredient is more energizing.
