Golden Moxa - Japanese Moxibustion - "Lux Aurea"
Golden Moxa (10g) for the practice of "rice grain" or "okyu" in Japanese moxibustion. Obtained by the careful isolation of trichomes from wild common mugwort leaves, hand-harvested in France (the fine white down on the underside of the leaves).
The Lux Range
The Lux range draws inspiration from the symbolism of traditional alchemy. In ancient treatises, the transformation of matter is described as a progressive process of purification and elevation called Magnum Opus (the Great Work). Through different stages, raw matter is clarified and refined until it reaches a state of accomplishment symbolized by gold.
Moxa preparation follows a comparable logic: through successive refinements, the mugwort fibre becomes lighter, purer and more subtle. The Lux range takes up this idea of progressive transformation, evoked by the increasing emergence of light.
Each moxa represents a stage in this evolution:
- Lux Prima (1) – The first light, evoking the prima materia, the original matter containing the potential of all transformation.
- Lux Aurora (4) – The light of dawn, where the elements begin to order and harmonize.
- Lux Alba (5) – The white light, symbol of purification and clarification of matter.
- Lux Aurea (7) – The golden light, representing the accomplishment of the work and the purest state of matter.
Each moxa in the range is also associated with a number of mugwort leaves shown on the packaging. These leaves serve as a visual symbol indicating the level of fineness of the moxa, instead of the stars often used in Japanese classification.
This system also retains a symbolic dimension inspired by alchemy:
- 1 leaf – the original unity.
- 4 leaves – the four fundamental elements.
- 5 leaves – the quintessence.
- 7 leaves – perfection and the accomplishment of the work.
The 4 leaves and 5 leaves levels correspond approximately to Japanese 4-star and 5-star moxas, with a slightly higher degree of purification.

Golden Moxa
Golden Moxa corresponds to the Lux Aurea 🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿 quality of the Lux range. It is obtained from mugwort leaves ground and sifted several times. This process allows the isolation of the trichomes (the fine white down on the underside of the leaves).
Traditional uses of golden moxa
This mugwort wool is used for making "rice grains" or "okyu" in Japanese.
Seasonally harvested mugwort
The mugwort used is harvested at the summer solstice, a period when sunshine is at its maximum. According to tradition, this period corresponds to a higher concentration of the plant's active principle, giving the moxa a more dynamic character.
Paper-free
The total absence of paper in this form of moxa allows direct combustion of the mugwort and releases a softer and more pleasant smell during use.
