Purified direct moxa for moxibustion

Purified direct moxa – for heated needles and cones

€19.50

Loose moxa (25 g) in the form of purified floss, obtained primarily by isolating the trichomes of wild mugwort leaves hand-harvested in France (the fine white down found on their underside), while retaining a small proportion of leaf material in order to maintain a balanced thermal effect and avoid an excessively dispersing action.

The Lux Range

The Lux range is inspired by the symbolism of traditional alchemy. In ancient treatises, the transformation of matter is described as a progressive process of purification and elevation known as the Magnum Opus (the Great Work). Through successive stages, raw matter is refined and clarified until it reaches a state of completion symbolized by gold.

The preparation of moxa follows a similar logic: through successive refinements, the mugwort fiber becomes lighter, purer, and more subtle. The Lux range reflects this idea of gradual transformation, evoked by the increasing emergence of light.

Each moxa represents a stage in this evolution:

  • Lux Prima (1) – The first light, evoking the prima materia, the original substance containing the potential for all transformation.
  • Lux Aurora (4) – The light of dawn, where elements begin to organize and harmonize.
  • Lux Alba (5) – The white light, symbolizing purification and clarification of matter.
  • Lux Aurea (7) – The golden light, representing the completion of the work and the purest state of matter.

Each moxa in the range is also associated with a number of mugwort leaves represented on the packaging. These leaves serve as a visual symbol indicating the level of refinement of the moxa, replacing the stars often used in Japanese classification.

This system also retains a symbolic dimension inspired by alchemy:

  • 1 leaf – the original unity.
  • 4 leaves – the four fundamental elements.
  • 5 leaves – the quintessence.
  • 7 leaves – perfection and completion of the work.

The 4-leaf and 5-leaf levels correspond approximately to Japanese 4-star and 5-star moxa, with a slightly higher degree of refinement.

Loose moxa in purified floss form

The fine purified floss corresponds to the Lux Alba 🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿 quality within the Lux range. It is obtained from crushed mugwort leaves that are sifted several times. This process primarily isolates the trichomes (the fine white down found on the underside of the leaves), while retaining a small proportion of leaf material. The result is a light, homogeneous, highly malleable floss that is easy to shape.

This level of refinement helps preserve a balanced thermal effect, prevents excessive heat dispersion, and makes this floss particularly suitable for prolonged therapeutic use.

Traditional uses of loose moxa

This mugwort floss is used to create direct and indirect moxa, particularly in the form of cones placed on slices of ginger or garlic, acting as an intermediary between the skin and the burning mugwort.

It is also particularly well suited for needle warming, by applying a small ball of floss directly onto the acupuncture needle: its cotton-like texture allows for easy and quick shaping without crumbling.

General indications

Loose moxa is especially recommended for deep treatments as well as for chronic or recurrent conditions, when heat needs to penetrate the tissues over time.

Seasonally harvested mugwort

The mugwort used is harvested at the summer solstice, when sunlight is at its peak. According to tradition, this period corresponds to a higher concentration of the plant’s active principle, giving the moxa a more stimulating quality.

Paper-free

The complete absence of paper in this form of moxa allows for direct combustion of the mugwort and produces a softer, more pleasant aroma during use.
