A moxa stick that travels without getting damaged
A moxa stick carried loose in a bag gets creased, hollowed out at one end and loses its moxa through the open tip. After a few journeys it burns unevenly and part of the contents has ended up at the bottom of the pocket.
This case solves the problem: the stick is held along its whole length, protected from knocks, and the cap stays in place. That is what lets you keep your moxa with you where you would not otherwise have taken it: a weekend away, a holiday, a hike, a summer evening outdoors, a long journey.
Which sticks it fits
The case is made for an R1 moxa stick. R2 sticks, which are thinner, also fit but sit a little loosely.
As bamboo is a natural material, the colour and grain vary from one case to another. The look may therefore differ from the photographs.
It is not an extinguisher
One important point: this case is for carrying, not for putting out. A lit stick must never be placed inside it, neither to extinguish it nor to store it while still hot. Bamboo is a combustible material, and closing a cap over an ember is a delayed fire risk.
To put out a stick at the end of a session, use an extinguisher, which is designed for that purpose. Wait until the stick is completely cold before putting it back in its case.
Origin: an exception we would rather state
This product comes from China. We have not found an equivalent local manufacturer, and we do not currently have the means to make it ourselves as we do for our moxa sticks or our Ontake tubes.
It is therefore a departure from our usual rule, and we prefer to write it down rather than let you work it out. This is a practical accessory, neither essential to the practice nor presented as such: simply a genuinely useful object, which we offer as it is, with its origin stated plainly.
